Lisalie Maude Armstrong was born on 16 February 1897 in Sligo. She was Marcus and Rosalie’s fourth child and third daughter. She was independent and self-reliant and enjoyed embarking on her own projects. Like Jess, Lisalie loved dogs and was inseparable from her terrier, Susie. She was known to everybody as Tom or Tommy and occasionally, being the youngest in the family, as The Baby. At the start of the war, she was living with her mother and two sisters in a boarding house at 14 Trinity Crescent, Folkestone, and was in her final year at St Margaret’s School.
