Catherine ‘Heppie’ Hepburn

Catherine Anne ‘Heppie’ Hepburn was born in 1872 in Constantinople, Turkey, as the third of the eight children of George Hepburn, a marine engineer, and Catherine née Miller, both of whom were Scottish. Heppie worked as governess to the Armstrong children and, when the children outgrew her, remained with the family as a general housekeeper and companion to Mrs Armstrong.
